Winger has recovered from a muscle injury and is expected to be in the squad for the FA Cup game
Liverpool are hopeful Mohamed Salah will return from injury in time for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.
The 33-year-old missed Liverpool’s defeat to Brighton before the international window due to a muscle injury sustained in their Champions League win over Galatasaray. He was also absent from the Egypt team as they played friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Spain.
Salah, who recently confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, has responded well to treatment and could feature at the Etihad Stadium as Arne Slot’s side gear up for the run-in.
There is also optimism surrounding Alexander Isak, who has been out since suffering a leg fracture against Tottenham Hotspur in December. The forward is expected to resume training this week, although a return in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain is seen as more likely.
However, goalkeeper Alisson remains a doubt after sustaining a hamstring injury ahead of the Brighton match. The Brazilian has struggled with similar issues in recent seasons and may miss the trip to Paris.
Midfielder Florian Wirtz will be involved and certainly at the top of the list of players Liverpool fans will be hoping can provide inspiration if they are to beat City and reach the finals, following his performance for Germany on international duty.
Now a man whose talent the Premier League is beginning to see on a weekly basis, Wirtz has spoken about his adaptation period in English football following his move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
“It wasn’t an easy phase,” Wirtz said. “It’s sometimes good that things don’t always go upwards and that you experience a dip and grow stronger because of it. That’s how I see it now as well – it has made me a bit stronger.
“I had to overcome resistance and adapt. I had to learn to become stronger and hold on to the ball.”
