Martin Zubimendi withdraws from international duty, becoming the 10th Arsenal player to pull out amid growing injury concerns.
Martin Zubimendi has become the latest Arsenal player to withdraw from international duty after suffering a knee issue. Spain opted not to take any risks, allowing the midfielder to return to North London for further assessment.
Zubimendi made a brief appearance in Spain’s 3-0 win over Serbia national football team, coming on as a 77th-minute substitute for Rodri. However, he will not feature in the upcoming fixture against Egypt national football team and will instead head back to his club early.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed the decision, stating the midfielder was experiencing discomfort in his right knee. The move was taken purely as a precaution to protect the player’s health and avoid worsening the issue.
Zubimendi has been a key figure for Arsenal this season, featuring in all 31 league matches and starting 30 of them. The midfielder has contributed five goals and one assist, underlining his importance to Mikel Arteta’s side.
His withdrawal follows that of Piero Hincapié, who also left international duty after Ecuador’s draw with Morocco national football team. The Ecuadorian Football Federation confirmed both Hincapié and Denil Castillo had undergone medical tests before being released to their clubs.
Arsenal’s list of withdrawals has now grown to ten players, including Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Magalhães, William Saliba and Jurrien Timber. The growing exodus reflects caution as the club competes across multiple competitions.
With crucial fixtures approaching, Arsenal are eager to keep their squad fit. They return to action in the FA Cup against Southampton before continuing their Premier League title push and Champions League campaign, making injury prevention more important than ever.
