Italy defender Federico Dimarco insists his team respects Bosnia and Herzegovina despite being caught celebrating Wales’ loss, ahead of their World Cup qualifying match.
Italy defender Federico Dimarco has insisted his team respects Bosnia and Herzegovina, after he and teammates were caught celebrating Wales’ loss, which secured Bosnia’s spot in the World Cup qualifying final.
The celebration drew criticism from Miralem Pjanic, a former Bosnia international who is famous for his playing days in Juventus.
Dimarco explained it was an instinctive reaction among friends watching a penalty shootout.
Dimarco emphasized respect for all clubs and national teams, stating they were just reacting to a tense moment. He spoke with Edin Dzeko, a friend and former teammate, and congratulated him on Bosnia’s win.
Italy will face Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday in Zenica, aiming to end their World Cup exile. Dimarco acknowledged the hostile atmosphere they’ll face but stressed Italy’s determination to qualify.
Dimarco felt some criticism was unfair, pointing out Italy’s recent World Cup failures. “We’ve missed the last two World Cups,” he said, adding that the backlash upset him.
Dimarco reiterated Italy’s focus on their own performance, expecting a tough match in Zenica. “We’re Italy, and we have to put in a great performance,” he said.
