Madrid’s 50% ownership of the player’s rights means half of transfer free will go to them

Barcelona are monitoring Osasuna’s Victor Munoz but are hesitant to pursue a deal because they would end up paying Real Madrid a significant sum.

The highly rated 22-year-old forward has attracted attention after a rapid rise in La Liga, and his performances have prompted interest from several clubs, with Barcelona among the leading contenders.

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente praised the youngster’s impact this week after he also scored on his debut for Spain in the friendly against Serbia.

“Victor Munoz is very humble,” said De la Fuente. “He knows that he has just arrived and has to work. He has played a great game, with details that we have all seen. He has fit in very well with the group and this is vital for us.”

Barcelona are understood to value Munoz but are reluctant to trigger his €40m release clause as half of that fee would go directly to Madrid, who retain 50% ownership of the player’s rights. There are concerns within the Catalan club about indirectly strengthening their rivals while trying to address their own squad needs.

Munoz is currently under contract at Osasuna until 2030. Madrid also have a buy-back clause for the player. If he does not leave Osasuna, they can resign him for a fee believed to be around €8m, although this fee will increase year by year and the clause will expire within three years.
