Florian Wirtz starred with two goals and two assists as Germany beat Switzerland 4-3 in a  friendly.

Florian Wirtz described his display as possibly his best yet for Germany after a sensational man of the match performance in their thrilling 4-3 victory over Switzerland.

Under the guidance of Julian Nagelsmann, Germany produced a lively attacking display, with Wirtz at the heart of everything positive. The Liverpool midfielder registered two assists in the first half before taking matters into his own hands after the break, scoring twice to secure the win for the visitors.

When asked whether it was his finest performance in a Germany shirt, Wirtz admitted it was difficult to argue otherwise. He joked about his first goal, suggesting it did not go exactly where he intended, but insisted his second strike was executed precisely as planned.

The 22-year-old also revealed his long-term ambition with the national team. Wirtz made it clear that winning the FIFA World Cup remains a major personal and collective objective, highlighting the confidence within the squad. He acknowledged the challenge ahead but expressed belief in the team’s quality and potential.

Germany’s attacking play impressed throughout the contest, with quick transitions and clinical finishing troubling Switzerland’s defence. However, the match also exposed defensive vulnerabilities, as Germany conceded three goals from Switzerland’s three shots on target.

Despite the concerns, Wirtz played down the defensive issues. He emphasised the strength of the squad and pointed out that the team is still building chemistry after limited time playing together.

The midfielder admitted the goals conceded were avoidable but remained confident Germany would improve. With attacking momentum growing and lessons learned at the back, Wirtz’s standout performance offered optimism as Germany continue preparations for future challenges.
