Saudi Pro League side resume efforts to sign the forward after a failed attempt in 2023

Al-Ittihad have resumed their efforts to sign Mohamed Salah following confirmation that the Liverpool forward will leave the club at the end of the season.

The Saudi Pro League side initially pursued Salah in 2023 but failed despite making a £150m bid. The 33-year-old is now available on a free transfer, despite having a year left on the contract he signed in April 2025.

Al-Ittihad are keen to recruit a marquee player after Karim Benzema departed for Al-Hilal in February. Al-Qadsiah are the only other club in Saudi Arabia considered capable of competing financially for Salah’s signature, while Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal are not expected to enter the race.

Salah will leave Liverpool as one of the club’s most decorated players. Since joining from Roma in 2017, he has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances, placing him third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. He also sits fourth on the Premier League’s all-time scorers list with 191 goals.

During his time at Anfield, Salah helped Liverpool win eight major trophies, including two league titles and the Champions League.

He has struggled in his final season, with a dip in form forcing manager Arne Slot to drop him for three consecutive matches late last year, and he later accused the club of throwing him “under the bus”.

Al-Ittihad are also considering a move for Casemiro, who is set to leave Manchester United when his contract expires in the summer. Any deal for the midfielder could depend on the future of Fabinho at the club.
