Winger says his “biggest goal” is to do “everything I do for Real” for the Seleção
Vinicius Junior says he is playing with renewed confidence and wants to translate his club form at Real Madrid into success with Brazil ahead of the World Cup.
The 25-year-old winger’s form has been up and down this term. Earlier on in the season he struggled in front of goal, suffering a 16-match goal drought for club and country. His form has improved significantly since and he has now scored 17 goals and 13 assists in 43 appearances this season.
Vinicius has won two Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles with Madrid but is yet to win anything with the Seleção. He has scored eight goals in 45 appearances for his country.
“I feel more at ease, I’m happier, and when I’m happier, everyone around me is happier and more confident too,” Vinicius said ahead of Brazil’s friendly against France.
“I hope that everything I do for Real I can go on to do here with the Brazilian national team. That’s my biggest goal. It’s where I’ve always dreamed of being, and I want to bring great pride to our country and a lot of joy to our entire nation.”
Brazil are looking to bounce back from their quarter-final exit at the 2022 World Cup, where they were eliminated by Croatia on penalties. Vinicius insists he remains focused as preparations for the next tournament continue.
The player said: “I know what I’m capable of and how much I’ve been working to be ready for the World Cup.”
