Roma entered the match under pressure following their recent dip in form and midweek Europa League elimination by Bologna.
The clash with relegation-threatened Lecce presented an ideal opportunity to bounce back.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, Roma struggled to create clear chances. Donyell Malen looked the most dangerous, but his effort from inside the box flew over, highlighting the hosts’ lack of cutting edge.
The Giallorossi thought they had taken the lead midway through the opening period when Nicolò Pisilli found the net. However, the goal was ruled out after Lorenzo Pellegrini was deemed offside in the buildup.
Lecce showed more intent after the break, with Oumar Ngom testing Mile Svilar before Tiago Gabriel headed over from the resulting corner. In response, Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini introduced Robinho Vaz.
The substitution proved decisive as Vaz headed home at the back post following a cross from Mario Hermoso, giving Roma the breakthrough they had been searching for.
Roma remained vulnerable, and only a brilliant goal-line clearance from Hermoso denied Santiago Pierotti an equalizer. Vaz later missed a chance to seal the result when he volleyed over from a promising position.
Lecce failed to mount sustained pressure late on, allowing Roma to extend their unbeaten home league run to eight matches and move within three points of Como.
Meanwhile, Lecce slipped into the relegation zone on goal difference with eight games remaining.
