Manchester City are reportedly preparing a substantial bid for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz to replace outgoing midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
With De Bruyne departing the club at the end of the season, the Sky Blues are aiming to secure a long-term replacement. De Bruyne has been instrumental to Manchester City’s domestic and European success since he arrived at the club in the summer of 2015. They have won five Premier League titles, two FA cups, five EFL cups, and a Champions League trophy in that time.
Meanwhile, Florian Wirtz has garnered attention from Europe’s top sides for his vision, technical prowess, and goals. The 21-year-old German international has provided 15 goals and 13 assists in all competitions for Leverkusen this season, and City have underlined him as the man to fill the creative void that their Belgian maestro will leave behind.
It is unclear just yet how much it will cost City to bring Wirtz to the Etihad, but figures upwards £100 million have been reported. City have already spent over £150 million this year bringing in Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, and Abdukodir Khusanov to bolster their squad.
However, they would have to contend with Bayern Munich for Wirtz’s signature. It is understood that Bayern are seriously interested in signing the midfielder and are well known to have a strong pull over players in the Bundesliga.
