Departing midfielder has reportedly recommended his Brazilian teammate to the club

Manchester United are interesting in signing Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, with talks reportedly revolving around a potential deal worth €80m.

The Brazilian midfielder has emerged as a top target for United as they look to build up their weak midfield in the summer. The departure of veteran Casemiro at the end of his contract when the season concludes will only add to the urgency.

United see Guimaraes as a natural successor to the 34-year-old, with Casemiro himself believed to have recommended the Brazilian, according to Reuters.

Newcastle have struggled to attract or hold onto players and Alexander Isak forced a move away last summer. The club are also likely to see squad changes in the summer, with midfielder Sandro Tonali another high-profile player who could depart. Guimaraes has a contract at the club until 2028.

There are reports that the Brazilian would be interested in discussing a move to Old Trafford ahead of the summer, but another option for the player, if he does decide to leave Newcastle, could be European giants Real Madrid.

Guimaraes has been on Madrid’s radar for years, dating back to when he was strongly considered as a long-term midfield option ahead of the summer of 2022. Newcastle moved quickly and secured his signature in January of that year in a deal close to €50m.
