“I can’t recall a single semifinal or quarterfinal where Vini has failed to deliver,” Seleção boss says

Carlo Ancelotti has backed Vinicius Junior to be pivotal for Brazil in the 2026 World Cup this summer.

The Brazilian was called up to the latest squad list for the Seleção’s March and April’s friendlies and Ancelotti dismissed concerns over his struggles in front of goal this season.

Vinicius has registered 13 goals and eight assists across 41 appearances this season but has gone four matches without scoring for Real Madrid. He also endured an incredible 19-game goal drought for club and country earlier this season.

But Ancelotti has backed the player to deliver both for Madrid as they make their way towards the Champions League final, and for Brazil this summer in the US, Canada and Mexico.

“Vinicius has never failed in important matches,” Ancelotti said. “I can’t recall a single semifinal or quarterfinal where Vini has failed to deliver.”

He also dismissed concerns over the forward’s attitude and his frequent clashes with players and the crowd in stadiums.

“Maybe Vinicius got frustrated in Valencia when he lost his focus, but he’s never done that in important games,” Ancelotti said. “I’m convinced he’ll have a great World Cup if he’s in the squad. Vinicius is humble, cheerful, and has extraordinary talent.”
