Bayern Munich face a goalkeeping crisis after Ulreich suffered an injury, joining Neuer and Urbig on the sidelines ahead of a key Champions League clash.

Bayern Munich are dealing with a growing goalkeeping crisis after Sven Ulreich became the latest shot-stopper to suffer an injury, joining Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig on the sidelines. With both Neuer and Urbig already unavailable, Ulreich was handed a rare start during Bayern’s 1–1 Bundesliga draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

However, the experienced goalkeeper was unable to finish the match unscathed. Bayern later confirmed that Ulreich sustained a muscle bundle tear in his right adductors during the game.

The injury means the 37-year-old will be ruled out for the foreseeable future, leaving the German champions extremely short of options between the posts.

Neuer is not expected to return until after the upcoming international break, while the club remains hopeful that Urbig can recover in time for the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie against Atalanta.

Bayern’s problems are compounded by the absence of fourth-choice goalkeeper Leon Klanac, who is also sidelined with a thigh injury.

If Urbig fails to recover in time, the club could be forced to turn to 16-year-old academy prospect Leonard Prescott, who was already named on the bench for recent matches against Atalanta and Leverkusen.
