18-year-old has not been involved in the group training session so far

Barcelona are monitoring the fitness of Lamine Yamal after the teenage star missed training on Thursday due to illness, raising concerns ahead of this weekend’s La Liga clash with Sevilla.

The 18-year-old forward did not take part in the squad’s session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper as Hansi Flick’s players returned to work following their midweek Champions League trip to England.

Barcelona resumed training at Camp Tito Vilanova after Yamal scored a penalty to earn them a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in the first leg of their last-16 tie at St James’ Park.

The La Masia graduate was not involved in the group workout, with the club later confirming he was suffering from “general discomfort”.

Reports in Spain indicate that the winger has been dealing with illness, though Barcelona remain hopeful he will return to training on Friday.

Yamal has been one of Barcelona’s most influential players this season, both in terms of minutes played and attacking output. He has already accumulated 3,102 minutes across all competitions, the second-highest total in the squad behind only Eric Garcia’s 3,208.

He has also produced 20 goals and 15 assists this season, close to bettering his numbers of 18 goals and 25 assists last season.
