Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that attacking midfielder Julian Brandt will leave the club this summer when his contract expires after seven years at the Bundesliga side.

Borussia Dortmund have officially confirmed that attacking midfielder Julian Brandt will leave the club at the end of the current season. The Germany international will depart as a free agent once his contract expires this summer.

The announcement was made by Dortmund’s managing director for sport, Lars Ricken, following the team’s 2-1 Bundesliga victory over 1. FC Köln.

After months of discussions regarding a possible extension, both parties ultimately agreed not to renew the deal.

Ricken explained that the decision came after open and honest talks between the club and the player. He confirmed that Brandt’s contract will run down at the end of the campaign, bringing an end to his seven-year stay with the Bundesliga side.

Brandt joined Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and has been a regular presence in the squad ever since. During his time at the club, the attacking midfielder made 297 appearances across all competitions.

Across those matches, Brandt contributed significantly in attack, scoring 56 goals and registering 68 assists. His creativity and versatility made him an important part of Dortmund’s attacking play for several seasons.

Despite occasionally facing criticism during his time at the club, Ricken expressed appreciation for Brandt’s overall contribution. He highlighted the player’s consistent numbers and acknowledged the role he has played in Dortmund’s recent campaigns.

With Brandt approaching his 30th birthday, the club believes his departure could represent a fresh opportunity for both sides. Dortmund will now look to reshape their squad moving forward, while Brandt prepares for the next chapter of his career.
