City’s manager thrilled with comeback win after “disappointing” Nottingham Forest draw
Pep Guardiola is thrilled that Manchester City found a way to fight back and then win after initially going down against Newcastle.
City conceded in the early stages of their FA Cup fifth-round game against the Magpies, but goals from Savinho and Omar Marmoush were enough to ensure a comfortable 3-1 win.
“It’s the best game we have played against Newcastle in my period here in ten years,” Guardiola said despite having just beaten Newcastle for the fourth time in a row this season.
“Really pleased because the game against Nottingham Forest we were disappointed. I’m really pleased with how we played, how we behaved, offensively, defensively
“We will be in the draw on Monday. It’s many years we are there and that is so good. Eight times in a row we are in the quarter-finals, this organisation is top.”
Guardiola wrapped double-goalscorer Marmoush in a bear hug on the sidelines when the Egyptian was substituted.
“He’s a top striker and the finishing, especially our second goal and our third is his biggest quality,” said Guardiola.
“He has to improve in small spaces and his first control but he deserved it.”
