The Premier League’s two most in-form clubs wanted Leroy Sane’s signature, but the German winger has made the decision to remain at Bayern Munich.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been dealt an early transfer blow as Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane has elected to remain at the German club next season. Sane’s contract was due to expire in the summer, but Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl wants to keep the 29 year old, according to Sky Germany.

The deal could see Sane stay with Bayern until at least the summer of 2028, when he will be 32. If successful, it means that the former Manchester City winger could spend the rest of his career at the elite level at Bayern Munich.

It is understood that Sane is currently being offered a fixed salary of €10 million per year, although performance-related bonuses are being discussed, which could see his take home reach €16 million per year. Notably, what Bayern is offering is in fact a pay cut, as Sane currently earns €20 million a year at the club.

However, the pay cut is reportedly acceptable to Sane, who is eager to stay at the Allianz Arena.

This is an unwelcome development to Liverpool and Arsenal. The Premier League rivals were preparing to bid for the striker with his contract expiring in the summer.
