Interim president Rafa Yuste says the club will demand formal explanations
Barcelona will be filing a formal complaint with the Spanish Football Federation over their disallowed goal against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie.
The Catalans went into the break 4-0 down but scored at the beginning of the second half, after Pau Cubarsi was first to reach the ball and prod home in an 18-yard-box scramble.
However, the goal was ruled out after a VAR review that lasted for more than seven minutes adjudged that Robert Lewandowski’s heel had been offside. The pictures presented by VAR were far from convincing.
Spain’s Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) later said the semi-automated offside system had malfunctioned and the lines for the offside decider had had to be manually drawn.
Barcelona’s interim president Rafa Yuste labelled the events “a disgrace” and “unacceptable”.
”As president, I want to say that we will not let this stand and we will demand explanations,” said Yuste. “It’s unacceptable that eight minutes have to pass before we see what happens with a play.”
