Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe could miss the weekend’s game against Real Sociedad after training away from the rest of the first team this week.

Mbappe has spent two days in gym work while his teammates trained on the grass. The France international is reportedly struggling with discomfort in his knee.

Madrid will have four full days of training this week as they are without Copa del Rey engagements, having been knocked out by second-division side Albacete last month. The players were given a day off after beating Valencia 2-0 on Sunday to keep pace with Barcelona at the top of the table, with preparations starting from Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s game against Sociedad.

Mbappe worked with club physiotherapists on Thursday to improve the condition of his knee. There is added caution given that he has been sidelined earlier this season for a sprain on the same knee, and without adequate fitness training he could risk a more serious problem potentially keeping him out long term.

Madrid also have injuries in other parts of the squad. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal have returned from lengthy spells on the sidelines but Eder Militao is a long-term absentee and Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo are expected to miss the game against Sociedad.
