Newcastle United ended their poor run with a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, leaving Thomas Frank’s side in the relegation battle.
Tottenham Hotspur’s miserable run continued as they slipped to a damaging 2-1 home defeat against Newcastle United, stretching their winless league sequence to eight matches and piling further pressure on head coach Thomas Frank.
The result leaves Tottenham hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, with anxiety growing among supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Both sides entered the contest desperate for a response after disappointing results at the weekend, but it was Eddie Howe’s Newcastle who settled quicker and imposed themselves early. Joe Willock went close inside the opening minutes, flashing a driven effort narrowly wide from the edge of the area in what proved to be an early warning for the hosts.
As frustration began to ripple through the home crowd, Newcastle continued to probe. Harvey Barnes’ clever flick forced Guglielmo Vicario into a sharp save, underlining the Magpies’ intent as Tottenham struggled to find rhythm or control in midfield during a scrappy first half.
Newcastle thought they had broken the deadlock before the interval when Willock burst in behind the Spurs defence and curled a superb finish into the far corner. However, a VAR intervention ruled the move marginally offside in the build-up, offering Tottenham a brief escape from the pressure.
That reprieve was short-lived. With almost the final action of the first half, Malick Thiaw rose highest to meet a corner, and although Vicario did well to parry the initial header, the defender reacted quickest to smash home the rebound and deservedly send Newcastle into the break with the lead.
Tottenham emerged with more urgency after the restart and went close to equalising on multiple occasions. Pape Matar Sarr forced Nick Pope into a smart save from distance, before substitute Mathys Tel squandered a gilt-edged chance, blazing over after being picked out unmarked by Archie Gray.
The leveller eventually arrived just after the hour mark when Gray pounced on a loose ball inside the area and rifled home, briefly swinging momentum in Tottenham’s favour. But their fragile confidence was exposed once again as Anthony Gordon danced into the box moments later and squared for Jacob Ramsey, who calmly swept home to restore Newcastle’s advantage.

Despite a late push from Tottenham, their lack of cutting edge in the final third proved costly, and they were unable to salvage a point. The defeat extends their winless home run to six matches, while Newcastle’s timely victory ends a three-game losing streak and lifts Howe’s side back into the top half of the table.
