Manchester City pulled off a dramatic win against Liverpool at Anfield, and in the current state of the Premier League, City aren’t the only winners.
Erling Haaland’s last-gasp penalty to give Manchester City a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield was cheered and jeered all over the Premier League. City have done the double over Liverpool for the first time in 89 years, but Liverpool fans won’t be the most disappointed even after seeing Szobozlai get a red card.

Arsenal fans who would’ve been glued to their TV, especially after seeing Szoboslai replicate the stupendous freekick he scored against them at the start of the season to give Liverpool the lead. Szoboslai freekick was a piece of magic, but the magic wasn’t enough to prevent City from coming back to win 2-1, and Arsenal fans would be distraught as a win for Liverpool would’ve meant their lead at the top would remain at six points, going into the game against Brentford on Thursday.
Love it that Manchester city won.
The Arsenal boys need to stay on their feet.
There’s no space to be comfortable atall.

While Arsenal fans will be gutted, Chelsea and Manchester United will be celebrating like brothers in arms as the results also has implications on the race for UCL spots.
Arsenal will play Tottenham, Chelsea, Brighton, Manchester City, Everton and Newcastle United in the premier league.
I have a strong feeling they will bottle the 6 points lead.
Chelsea will finish outside top 5 too.😭😭🤣🤣— Jerry (@JerryFCB_96) February 8, 2026
Manchester United and Chelsea are in a joint race for UCL spots with Liverpool, and thanks to this loss, the gap between United, Chelsea, and Liverpool has opened up just a little bit, giving both teams just enough respite before the next set of fixtures.
Manchester United, who are now back to winning ways, sit in 4th place with 44 points, five points above Liverpool in 6th place. Chelsea also tops the reigning Premier League champions with 4 points as they sit in 5th place with 43 points.
The results also brings good news for Brentford, Everton, and Sunderland, who are in the top 10 of the Premier League and are in the fight for European spots. The gap between Liverpool in 6th place and Sunderland in 9th place is just three points.
Interestingly, the gap between Liverpool and 10th placed Fulham and 11th placed Bournemouth is five points as both teams are tied with 34 points.
For Brentford, who are tied with Liverpool on 39 points, the race for Europe is still on, and the Reds can’t afford to slip up, or, they may not even make Europa League football.
Manchester City may have won on the night but many other teams will celebrate this win, while for Liverpool they have just made a couple of Arsenal fans unhappy.
Thank you Arne Slot for giving Manchester City the win. Arsenal must not win the league this season 😂
