The 2010 World Cup winner hails youngster as “a complete player”; Lamine Yamal backed to become one of the greatest

Former Barcelona and Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta believes that Pedri has what it takes to become the best midfielder in the world.

In his own heyday Iniesta was considered by many to be one of the greatest to ever play the game in his position.

A La Masia talent, some of his own special qualities have also become evident in Pedri, who surprisingly did not emerge from “The Farmhouse”, Barcelona’s special academy regularly producing some of the most talented players in the world.

Instead, Pedri was signed by Barcelona from Las Palmas’s youth setup in 2019. He had joined the club a year before that, after being rejected by Real Madrid for not being at their level.

“Pedri feels very comfortable on the ball and is always involved,” Iniesta said of the 23-year-old. “He can organise the game but also provide imbalance. He is a very complete player with brutal qualities who will keep improving.”

The 2010 World Cup winner also reserved praise for Lamine Yamal, who did emerge from La Masia and has been compared to Iniesta’s long-time teammate Lionel Messi.

“Lamine Yamal’s challenge is to keep growing every year,” Iniesta said. “He plays with incredible naturalness, and it is in his hands to become one of the greatest if he keeps pushing himself.”
