Interim says “a lot can happen” in last week of window

Manchester United’s interim coach Michael Carrick is not ruling out additions by the club before the transfer window closes on 2 February.

United have been linked with moves to boost their midfield areas, although Ruben Amorim’s departure and Carrick’s switch back to a 4-2-3-1 has meant that there is less need for recruitment there.

However, Patrick Dorgu’s injury, which could rule the left winger out for up to 10 weeks, has opened up the possibility of additions, even if United still have Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha to play in that position.

“Never say never,” Carrick said. “A lot can happen and situations can be thrown up.

“Sometimes it is in our control, sometimes not. I am pretty calm. We have shown what we are capable of as a team.”

Joshua Zirkzee is back in the side after missing the past two games and Carrick is eager to have him back on the pitch.

“Josh has just been trying to work to get fit,” said Carrick. “It was great to have him training with the group the first time and I am just looking forward to working with him.”
