Arne Slot has revealed that Jeremie Frimpong will miss yet another few weeks for Liverpool with a groin injury.

The defender was forced off in the opening minutes of the Champions League game against Qarabag in midweek. Before joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer the Dutchman had had an impressive fitness record.

“He will definitely not be in the squad tomorrow,” Slot said. “He is out for a few weeks, but [it’s] not as bad as we thought, so something positive from something not so positive.”

Liverpool have struggled with injuries this season. £125m signing Alexander Isak has only played a handful of games this season due to fitness issues, and is currently sidelined with a broken leg.

The other right-back Conor Bradley was ruled out of the season after a knee injury earlier this month. Centre-back Giovani Leoni is also out with an ACL injury and Joe Gomez was forced off in the weekend’s game against Bournemouth.

Isak has made some progress in his recovery and is no longer moving with a walking aid, but Slot warned the player was still a long way off from returning to the pitch.
