Juventus is set to resume talks with Weston McKennie over a new contract, with both sides eager to reach an agreement.
McKennie has entered the last six months of his €3m deal at the Allianz Stadium, and negotiations have been ongoing.
His versatility has made him a key player under Luciano Spalletti, with the American midfielder grabbing five goals and four assists in 19 appearances under the Tuscan tactician. His ability to adapt to different roles has been invaluable to the team.
Reports had suggested that negotiations stalled due to the agent’s fee demands, fuelling talk of McKennie leaving for the MLS on a free transfer at the end of the season. However, the midfielder’s agent and his father have denied these reports.
McKennie’s father recently wrote on social media that “Wes is the happiest I have seen him in quite some time” and that “coach has definitely been the difference!”
According to reports, Juventus is preparing to raise McKennie’s salary to €4m/€4.5m per season, with a new meeting between the two parties taking place once the January transfer window closes. The club is eager to reach an agreement over a new contract until 2028 or 2029.
