Nottingham Forest 4-0 Ferencvaros: Premier League side close off Europa League league phase in style
The cloud that gathered around Sean Dyche is certainly lifting after Nottingham Forest continued on their upward trajectory by thrashing Ferencvaros on Thursday.
Dyche’s side are into the last-16 playoffs and while there was very little chance of missing out in the final week, regardless of the result against Ferencvaros, a comprehensive defeat of the Hungarian side brings much positivity after a poor start to this competition and with Forest staring down the drop zone in the Premier League.
The home draw against Arsenal was encouraging but a defeat to Braga in this competition last week caused fury and drew boos from the travelling support. A huge result for Dyche then, after beating Brentford at the weekend and then following it up with a successive victory, a four-goal margin and a clean sheet in Europe.
Ferencvaros went into the tie unbeaten in the Europa League but 17 minutes later a Bence Otvos own goal was a fitting reward for Forest’s aggression and initiative going forward. A brace by the in-form Igor Jesus on either side of the break put the game beyond reach, before youngster James McAtee made it four from the spot at the end of normal time.
