Inter have held initial talks with Emiliano Martinez’s camp as they explore long-term options to succeed Yann Sommer.

Inter Milan have begun exploring options for life after Yann Sommer and have reportedly opened discussions over a possible move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The Nerazzurri are planning ahead as they look to secure a long-term solution between the posts.

Sommer, now 37, is entering the final year of his contract at San Siro and, as things stand, is not expected to sign an extension. While he remains a key figure for Inter in the short term, the club are aware that a transition will soon be necessary.

Inter do have another Martinez on their books in Josep Martinez, but there is still uncertainty over whether the Spanish goalkeeper will be ready to take on the number one role by the start of the 2026–27 season. That uncertainty has prompted the club to assess experienced alternatives.

According to reports, Inter have made contact with Emiliano Martinez’s representatives. A key factor in any possible move will be Martinez’s salary. The 33-year-old is among Aston Villa’s top earners, and sources suggest he would need to accept a pay cut for a switch to Serie A to become financially viable for Inter.

Martinez, who won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022, is currently under contract at Aston Villa until the summer of 2029, but Inter appear keen to keep the option firmly on the table as they plan for the future.
