Chelsea faced Brentford in a must-win game after losing 3-2 to Arsenal in the League Cup. Chelsea had Palmer, James, and Caicedo, and the sheer force of their star players powered them past a daunting Brentford.
Chelsea were piling on pressure early in the game, but they almost went behind on three occasions, even hitting the bar. Brentford almost took the lead after Schade cut past Chalobah, but rather than shoot, he passed it, giving Chelsea a chance to clear their lines.
Chelsea later took the lead through Joao Pedro after he pounced on a loose ball and blasted it into the roof of the net. The goal was originally ruled offside, but VAR overturned the decision.
Chelsea would’ve made it 2-0 before half-time had Garnacho converted a seater.
Early in the second half, Sanchez came to Chelsea’s rescue as Schade, who was through on goal, failed to convert. Brentford pressed Chelsea and starved the London giants of any quality football but Chelsea hung in there, and with minutes to go, the Blues got a lifeline.
Delap was fouled in the box, and Cole Palmer stepped up to make it 2-0.
Chelsea are now 6th, leapfrogging Brentford but sitting just one point behind Manchester United, who beat Manchester City 3-0 in the Manchester Derby.
