Real Madrid and Serie A Pays Tribute to Late Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso

Serie A will observe a minute’s silence for late Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso as clubs in Italy and abroad, including Real Madrid, honour the former owner.

Serie A will pay tribute to the late Rocco Commisso with a minute’s silence before all professional men’s and women’s matches this weekend, following the Fiorentina president’s passing at the age of 76.

Fiorentina confirmed the death of the Italian-American businessman on Saturday morning. Commisso had owned the club since 2019, overseeing a period of renewed ambition and stability in Florence.

According to reports, the tribute will be observed across all levels of Italy’s professional leagues, underlining the widespread respect Commisso commanded within Italian football.

Condolences have poured in from clubs and leading figures across the sport. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis described Commisso as “a person of great human and entrepreneurial stature,” while offering sympathy to his wife Catherine, children Giuseppe and Marisa, and his extended family.

Lega Serie A president Ezio Maria Simonelli also paid tribute, calling Commisso “a man of extraordinary energy and passion” who successfully blended his entrepreneurial vision with a deep love for football.

Commisso’s influence extended beyond Italy, with tributes also coming from Real Madrid.

Fiorentina will return to action on Sunday away at Bologna. During Commisso’s ownership, the Viola reached three major finals — two in the Conference League and one Coppa Italia — all under former coach Vincenzo Italiano, marking a significant chapter in the club’s modern history.
