Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone surgery on his right hamstring after suffering an injury during the 3-2 Premier League loss to Bournemouth last week.
Bentancur is expected to be out for at least three months, dealing a significant blow to Thomas Frank’s struggling side.
Bentancur’s injury is the latest in a series of setbacks for Spurs, who are already without attacking midfielder James Maddison due to an ACL injury. Fellow midfielder Lucas Bergvall also picked up an injury during the Bournemouth game and missed the weekend’s 2-1 FA Cup loss to Aston Villa.
“We can confirm that Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone surgery on his right hamstring… and will now commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff,” Tottenham posted on X on Tuesday.
The loss of Bentancur is a significant blow to Spurs’ midfield, and the club is reportedly in talks to sign England midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid to boost their bid for a top-eight finish in the Champions League.
Tottenham are currently 14th in the Premier League standings and host West Ham United on Saturday. They also have crucial Champions League fixtures against Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt this month.
