The new year has begun with a trend. Clubs are sacking their managers, and with Xabi Alonso leaving Real Madrid, you get the feeling another manager will soon be axed.

The new year began with a big surprise for football fans. Chelsea shockingly announced on New Year’s Day that Enzo Maresca was leaving the club, and whether Chelsea fans liked it or not, that’s less of the point; a manager has been axed.

As Chelsea prepared to appoint Liam Rosenior as their new head coach, we had another shocker: Amorim was axed. Just a few days after Maresca’s departure from Chelsea, rivals Manchester United followed suit, sending Amorim out of the club after a poor record with the Red Devils.

While everything seemed to have cooled down, football fans were treated to a thriller in the Spanish Super Cup final between Real Madrid and Barcelona, which Barcelona won 3-2.

The news from the game was an absolute shocker as Real Madrid announced that Xabi Alonso has left the club based on mutual consent. Whether they were being respectful with their legend in their statement or if Alonso actually left the club, we don’t know, but what we do know is that Alonso is the third manager from a high-profile club to be axed in the new year.

And I think someone is next. Guess who?

Thomas Frank.

He might be next. The odds are against him at Tottenham, and nothing seems to be working. It’s one loss after the other, and the recent defeat to Aston Villa has added more fuel to the fiery anger of Tottenham fans.

I had honestly expected him to do great things at Tottenham, and maybe he will if he gets the chance to stay longer. However, he may use the door soon if things don’t turn around fast at Tottenham.
