AC Milan manager Max Allegri has warned his team that they made the same mistakes against Fiorentina as they did against Genoa, after a second consecutive 1-1 draw.
AC Milan dominated the first half, but failed to capitalize on their chances, allowing Fiorentina to take the lead.
Pietro Comuzzo’s header from a corner had put the hosts in front, but Christopher Nkunku’s powerful finish in the 90th minute rescued a point for Milan. Allegri was not pleased with his team’s performance, particularly their inability to open the scoring.
“We had a good first half, and chances to score that we didn’t convert, then after the break Fiorentina had more of the ball,” Allegri told the media after the game. “After going a goal down, we had patience to get the ball into the final third, but after equalizing we made the same mistakes we did against Genoa.”
Allegri was critical of his team’s lack of precision in front of goal, citing their failure to capitalize on chances created by Niclas Fullkrug and Christian Pulisic. He also praised the performance of debutant Amad Jashari, who struggled to fill the shoes of Luka Modric.
The result means Milan remains second in the table, but they risk sliding down to third place depending on the result from the Inter and Napoli match.
Allegri emphasized the importance of focusing on themselves and getting back to winning ways.
“We have to focus on ourselves and getting back to winning ways, because we drew the last two, there are still 34-36 points to go for a Champions League spot,” Allegri said. “Let’s not lose sight of reality, we started with 50 per cent of the squad changed, we’re doing well and must try to improve.”
