Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer has revealed he will make a final decision on his future later this season, as the club weighs up a possible contract extension for the veteran goalkeeper.

Manuel Neuer has opened up about his future at Bayern Munich, confirming that he will wait until later in the season before deciding whether to extend his stay with the Bundesliga giants.

Bayern are currently focused on securing several contract extensions during the winter window, with agreements already reached with Serge Gnabry and Konrad Laimer, while talks continue over a new deal for Dayot Upamecano. Neuer, however, remains a more relaxed case despite having just six months left on his current contract.

The 39-year-old has enjoyed a strong campaign after a difficult first half of last season, rediscovering his best form over the past year. Under head coach Vincent Kompany, Neuer has remained the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, showing no significant decline in his overall performances.

Bayern’s hierarchy are reportedly satisfied with Neuer’s displays and would be open to extending his contract by another year. However, the club legend is in no rush to put pen to paper.

Speaking at a fan event over the weekend, as quoted by Sky Sports, Neuer explained his stance. “I’m positive about the whole thing. But I want to wait and see how things develop over the next few months,” he said, adding that he expects to make a final decision around the end of March or beginning of April.

Meanwhile, Bayern are also planning for the future between the posts. Young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig has made a promising impression since arriving in Munich last January, delivering solid performances when called upon and earning a handful of Bundesliga starts this season.

An ideal scenario for Bayern would see Neuer extend his contract in a reduced role, similar to Thomas Müller’s recent seasons, allowing Urbig to continue his development under an experienced mentor. With changes expected in the goalkeeping department this summer, Neuer’s decision now appears to be a question of timing rather than uncertainty.
