Mikel Arteta is optimistic about Declan Rice’s chances of playing against Bournemouth on Saturday, despite the midfielder’s ongoing knee injury.

Rice missed Arsenal’s win against Aston Villa due to the injury, which he sustained during the 2-1 victory over Brighton.

Arteta revealed that the swelling around Rice’s knee hasn’t gone down yet, but they’re monitoring his progress in today’s training session. “Not yet, we have another session today, let’s see how he(Rice) comes today,” Arteta said.

The Arsenal manager doesn’t regret playing Rice against Brighton, saying it’s normal for players to experience setbacks after injuries. “He managed to do it. That’s normal sometimes. You get a hit, and throughout the game, you are able with adrenaline, and because you are warm, you are able to sustain that,” Arteta explained.

Rice’s absence was felt, but Arsenal adapted well, with Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino impressing in midfield. Gabriel Jesus also returned to score against Aston Villa, providing a boost to the team.

Arteta is also dealing with other injuries, including Riccardo Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera, who are out, while Max Dowman is expected to be sidelined until February.

Arsenal is currently top of the Premier League table, five points clear of Manchester City, and will be looking to extend their lead against Bournemouth.
