AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri emphasizes the need for defensive improvement and confirms contract extension talks for key players.
AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri insists his team needs to improve defensively ahead of their match against Verona. “We absolutely need to improve,” Allegri told the media
Allegri emphasized the importance of maintaining focus throughout the game, citing Verona’s pace and technique up front. “We’ll need a tidy performance, especially not to lose certainties during the match,” he said.
Christopher Nkunku starts up front alongside Christian Pulisic, with Rafael Leao injured. Allegri is optimistic about Nkunku’s chances, saying he’s “settling in” and has “extraordinary technique.”
With the January transfer window approaching, contract talks are a hot topic at Milan. Allegri confirmed the club is “working” on extensions for key players, including Mike Maignan, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
“Maignan is important, like all those with more experience,” Allegri said. “The club is working for the future and to keep Milan at a certain level; surely, there will be extensions of important players.”
Milan sits second in Serie A, one point below city rivals Inter. A win would put them top of the table, pending Inter’s match against Atalanta.
