Brazilian pushed for the move to get regular minutes away from the Bernabeu and Madrid agreed a loan was the best option
Lyon have finalised an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Endrick on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old will join the Ligue 1 side in January on a six-month deal that does not include an option to buy.
The move was finalised on Monday following weeks of discussions between the clubs, and Endrick is expected in France later this week to complete a medical and formalise the switch.
The move comes after a frustrating first half of the season in Madrid. Endrick struggled for opportunities under Carlo Ancelotti but has found it even harder under Xabi Alonso, making only brief substitute appearances in both La Liga and the Champions League.
The Brazilian pushed for the move in order to get regular minutes away from the Spanish capital, and was keen on Lyon despite their absence from the Champions League. With his development in mind, Madrid agreed that a loan was the best option.
Lyon will contribute around €1m towards the striker’s wages and he is set to wear the No 9 shirt during his stay, according to sources familiar with the deal.
The club fought off interest from several sides across Europe to secure his signature. Their officials see the arrival as a statement signing midway through the season.
A key factor in the deal was Lyon head coach Paulo Fonseca, who held detailed talks with the player and can speak to him in Portuguese. Endrick will also join a small Brazilian contingent at the club, including Emerson and Abner.
