Juventus loses centre-back Daniele Rugani for 6 weeks due to a medium-grade injury.
Juventus is facing a defensive crisis after centre-back Daniele Rugani suffered a medium-grade injury to his right leg during the 2-1 win over Roma. The Italian defender is expected to be out for up to six weeks, dealing a blow to Luciano Spalletti’s squad.
Rugani, who recently returned from a year-long loan with Ajax, had only just recovered from a previous muscular injury that kept him out for four weeks in November. His latest injury occurred during his second-half cameo against Roma, where he replaced Gleison Bremer.
The Bianconeri now have limited options at centre-back, with Bremer, Pierre Kalulu, and Lloyd Kelly being the only natural senior options. Teun Koopmeiners has been filling in on the left of the back three in recent weeks.
Juventus has confirmed that Francisco Conceicao and Weston McKennie underwent medical tests on Sunday, ruling out serious injuries. However, their fitness for the Pisa match on December 27 remains uncertain.
“Francisco Conceicao and Weston McKennie also underwent tests, which ruled out muscular injuries. Their conditions will be monitored on a day-by-day basis,” the club statement read.
Rugani’s injury adds to Juventus’ defensive woes, with Juan Cabal also out due to a thigh injury. Spalletti will need to get creative with his squad selection for the upcoming matches.
