41-year-old Thiago Silva signs with Porto, seeking one final World Cup appearance in 2026.

Thiago Silva has joined Porto, marking a return to European football at the age of 41. The Brazilian defender signed a contract with the Portuguese club until the end of the 2025-26 season, with an option to extend for another year.

Silva’s move to Porto completes a circle in his illustrious career, having played for the club’s B side in the 2004-05 season. He joins Porto after a two-season spell with Fluminense in Brazil, where he led the team to the Club World Cup semifinals.

The veteran defender has a wealth of experience, having won 32 trophies, including a Champions League title with Chelsea in 2021. He also lifted the Serie A title with AC Milan and won seven French league crowns with Paris Saint-Germain.

Silva’s decision to join Porto is reportedly driven by his desire to play in the 2026 World Cup. He has 113 caps for Brazil and is eager to make one final appearance at the tournament.

Thiago Silva expressed his excitement about joining Porto, saying, “I’m super motivated. I hope I can help in the best way possible.”

Porto is currently leading the Primeira Liga by five points, and Silva’s experience could be crucial in their title pursuit. He could make his debut as soon as Monday, when Porto faces Alverca.
