Strasbourg sealed top spot in the UEFA Conference League with a 3-1 home victory over Breidablik, thanks to Martial Godo’s crucial second goal.
The forward’s fifth goal involvement of the competition helped Strasbourg extend their unbeaten home run in major European competition to 16 games.
Strasbourg took an early lead when Sebastian Nanasi finished a flowing move, side-footing a shot into the roof of the net from Ben Chilwell’s cut-back in the 11th minute. This goal extended Breidablik’s run without an away clean sheet to 16 games.
Breidablik sparked into life midway through the half, with Arnor Jonsson’s long-range effort parried behind by Mike Penders, and Andri Yeoman’s shot from 25 yards thudding against the post.
Breidablik equalized nine minutes before half-time when Kristinn Jonsson’s low cross deflected into the path of Hoskuldur Gunnlaugsson, who lashed home.
Strasbourg started the second half strongly, and Godo saw a goal ruled out for offside 44 seconds after the restart. However, they eventually found a second goal 10 minutes from time when Julio Enciso set up Godo, who rifled into the far corner.
Enciso tucked home the third goal in stoppage time to seal Breidablik’s fate, confirming Strasbourg’s top spot in the Conference League table.
