Chelsea Eyes Kobbie Mainoo as Midfield Solution Amidst Injury Crisis

Chelsea is keeping a close eye on Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo as they look to address their midfield woes.

With injuries to Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo, Chelsea are concerned about being left short in central midfield, especially with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez playing almost every minute.

The 20-year-old Mainoo has been monitored by Chelsea for some time, and they believe they have a chance of signing him if he becomes available. Manchester United are currently not willing to let Mainoo leave in January, but they might reconsider if they find a suitable replacement.

Mainoo’s situation at United has been a topic of discussion, with him requesting a loan move to gain more playing time. Chelsea sees this as an opportunity to acquire the young midfielder, who could follow in the footsteps of Alejandro Garnacho, another Manchester United academy product now at Chelsea.

Chelsea’s interest in Mainoo is driven by their need for a creative midfielder who can add depth to their squad. With Reece James performing well in midfield, the club is looking for options that will arise in 2026, and Mainoo could be a more attainable option compared to other targets like Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.

The January transfer window is considered a tricky period for Chelsea to fix their problems, but they’re open to the right solution for the second half of the season.

Manchester United values Mainoo at around £70 million, and Chelsea is willing to make an offer if they’re given the green light. The Blues have already held discussions with Mainoo’s agent, and they’re considered frontrunners to sign him if he decides to leave Old Trafford.
