Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham was sent off as Freiburg held them to a 1-1 draw in the Bundesliga, ending Freiburg’s seven-game losing streak.
Borussia Dortmund’s hopes of closing the gap to leaders Bayern Munich were dashed as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Freiburg in the Bundesliga.
The match saw Dortmund dominate the first half, but they were made to pay for their wastefulness as Freiburg capitalized on a Jobe Bellingham red card to snatch a point.
Dortmund took the lead just before halftime through Ramy Bensebaini, who scored from close range after a deflection. However, their joy was short-lived as Bellingham was sent off eight minutes after the restart for bringing down Philipp Treu.
Freiburg took advantage of the numerical superiority and Lucas Höler scored a stunning equalizer with a fantastic volley. The hosts thought they had snatched victory with five minutes of normal time remaining, but Igor Matanović’s close-range effort was ruled out for offside.
The draw sees Freiburg climb one place to ninth, ending their seven-game losing streak. Dortmund, on the other hand, stay third, having missed the chance to close the gap to leaders Bayern Munich.
