Striker has reached full fitness but is also dealing with illness

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko may be available to play against Bournemouth on Monday.

Sesko has missed four matches with a knee problem but manager Ruben Amorim suggested the player has reached full fitness, although he revealed the Slovenian is also dealing with illness.

“We have to see if he’s available,” Amorim said of Sesko. “He has some food poisoning but let’s wait. We still have two training sessions.”

Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt remain sidelined. In the last two games Amorim has preferred Noussair Mazraoui and youngster Ayden Heaven in defence. With Mazraoui headed for Afcon, Leny Yoro may be Amorim’s only option in the right-sided centre-back role.

Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo are also doubts for Bournemouth’s visit, with Amorim confirming United are having discussions with their countries to obtain special arrangements allowing them to play on Monday before travelling for Afcon.

United enter the weekend sixth in the table and have lost only once in nine league matches, but Amorim warned that Bournemouth will offer a demanding test. Andoni Iraola’s side sit 13th but have taken 20 points from their past ten league games.

“It’s a top team, top manager,” Amorim said. “I don’t look at the results, I look at the way they face every opponent. They press really strong, they are direct. I expect a really tough game but we need to win, especially at home.”
