In an emotional video posted on his Instagram page, Thomas Muller has announced his departure from Bayern at the end of the season. The Bayern Munich Forward on Saturday confirmed in a post concerns about his departure.
His contract is due to expire in the summer and now, he will not be renewing the contract. This decision is a mutual one between both sides.
Bayern director Max Eberl confirmed that the decision wasn’t easy for the club. Max Eberl confirmed that the club’s decision is based on squad development.
He stated that Muller is held in high regard at the club and this decision was made with the best interest of both parties.
Muller’s departure from Bayern brings his 25 years run to an end. In this period, he has made 700 first team appearances scoring 247 goals. He sits third in Bayern’s all time goalscorer list and ranks first in appearances for Bayern Munich (743).
Muller is Bayern’s most decorated player with 12 Bundesliga titles (more than any player in the league’s history), six DFB Cup, eight domestic Supercups, two Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups. His trophy tally is a total of 32 trophies.
Muller will feature finally for Bayern in the Club World Cup this summer before exiting.
