Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram cautions that Liverpool, despite their current struggles, will be a formidable opponent in their upcoming Champions League match.
The English giants are struggling in ninth place in the Premier League, with only four wins in their last 15 matches, and a crisis sparked by Mohamed Salah’s criticism.
Thuram insisted that Inter always rise to the occasion in the Champions League, saying, “The truth is that a champion, when doubts arise, wants to show what they’re really capable of.” He warned that Liverpool, despite their current form, are a great team with great players, and Inter will need to bring their best game to win.
The French international highlighted Inter’s past successes in the Champions League, saying, “We’ve won some big matches, and in a game of this calibre, anything can happen.” However, he acknowledged that Inter has been missing something in their top matches this season, pointing to their 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the final last season.
Inter are currently second in Serie A, one point behind leaders Napoli, but have already suffered four defeats, three of them against direct title rivals. Despite this, Thuram is confident that Inter can overcome Liverpool, saying, “It’s up to us to continue doing what we’ve been doing lately and even do better.”
Liverpool’s struggles have been well-documented, with Mohamed Salah’s criticism of the team’s performance sparking a crisis. The Egyptian has been left out of manager Arne Slot’s squad for the match, and Thuram sees this as an opportunity for Inter to capitalize on Liverpool’s weaknesses.
However, Thuram is not taking anything for granted, saying, “Everyone might think this is the perfect time to face Liverpool, but maybe not.” He believes that Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from their recent struggles and will be a tough opponent.
Inter will need to bring their best game to win, and Thuram is confident that they can. “Since I’ve been an Inter player, we’ve won some big matches, and we’re going to face a great team with great players,” he said.
