Mikel Arteta says he is focused on beating Aston Villa and extending his team’s lead in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal will face Aston Villa on Saturday, looking to extend their lead in the Premier League title race. Mikel Arteta is aware of the challenge ahead, with Villa in good form under Unai Emery, who has done a remarkable job at the club.

Villa have a league-high 25 points from their last 10 league games, and they have beaten Arsenal in both meetings last season. However, Arteta is focused on the opportunity ahead, rather than seeing it as an obstacle. “We know the task tomorrow, but we always think it’s an opportunity,” he said.

Arteta was asked about Emery’s motivation against Arsenal, who sacked him in 2019. “I think when you look at Unai, his career, his motivation level, everywhere there’s been an impact that he’s done, it’s always been remarkable,” Arteta said. “He never needs anything extra. I think he’s good enough in himself.”

Arsenal’s recent form has been impressive, with an 18-game unbeaten run in all competitions. However, they suffered some injury concerns in their last game, with Mosquera hobbling off with an ankle injury, and Declan Rice failing to finish the game.

Arteta said Mosquera’s injury was “more complicated” and would know more on Friday.

There is good news on defender William Saliba and forward Leandro Trossard, who are expected to return soon. “It is a matter of days with those two, for sure,” Arteta said.

The fixture schedule has been a concern, with Arsenal facing Villa less than 72 hours after facing Brentford. Arteta said: “The only thing I can say is that whenever it’s possible to help and give the players an extra day or hours to fulfil their maximum potential, let’s do it.”

Arteta is focused on getting the best out of his team and believes they are ready for the challenge ahead. “We are ready for tomorrow’s game, that’s for sure,” he said.
