Lazio reached the Coppa Italia quarterfinals after Mattia Zaccagni’s late goal secured a 1-0 win over Serie A leaders AC Milan. 

Zaccagni’s header, assisted by Nuno Tavares’ corner kick, proved to be the difference in the match, ending AC Milan’s unbeaten streak since August.

Milan’s loss hands Massimiliano Allegri a tough challenge ahead, as they focus on the Serie A title and Italian Super Cup. The Rossoneri currently lead Serie A on goal difference from Napoli, who also advanced to the quarterfinals with a win over Cagliari.

Lazio’s victory sets up a quarterfinal clash with defending champions Bologna, who edged Parma 2-1 with Santiago Castro’s late winner. Bologna’s win continues their strong Coppa Italia campaign.

The Coppa Italia Round of 16 will conclude in January, with Roma hosting Torino and Fiorentina taking on Como.

Maurizio Sarri’s team showed great character to overcome Milan, avenging their recent Serie A defeat.
