Napoli edged into the Coppa Italia quarter-finals, while Inter Milan soared through with a 5-1 win over Venezia.

Napoli has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia, defeating Cagliari 10-9 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. The match went straight to penalties after 90 minutes, as per Italian Cup rules.

Lorenzo Lucca opened the scoring for Cagliari in the 28th minute, but Sebastiano Esposito equalized for Napoli in the second half. The shoot-out was tense, with Cagliari’s Mattia Felici missing the fourth penalty, crashing it against the crossbar.

Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic made a crucial save in the 10th round of the shoot-out, denying Zito Luvumbo, before Alessandro Buongiorno netted to send the hosts through.

In another match, Atalanta ran out 4-0 victors at home to Genoa. Inter Milan was equally impressive, downing second-division Venezia 5-1 at the San Siro, with France international Marcus Thuram grabbing a brace.

The round of 16 continues on Thursday as defending champions Bologna host Parma. Napoli will face the winners of the tie between Como and Fiorentina, scheduled for the end of January.
