Manager wants the Brazilian to focus on his all-round game; Cunha available again after head injury

Matheus Cunha has been influential for Manchester United but his best is yet to come, according to head coach Ruben Amorim.

The Brazilian will be available again for United when they face West Ham on Thursday, after a head injury ruled him out of the last two matches against Everton and Crystal Palace.

The 26-year-old has endured a quiet start since his £62.5m move from Wolves in the summer, scoring just once in 11 appearances, but Amorim insisted the forward’s value is far from limited to just goals alone.

“He has more levels to go,” Amorim said. “He’s at a different club, different pressure. He was struggling because he was not scoring. He was thinking too much about the numbers but the influence he has in the team is important to us.”

United will still be without Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko, both of whom remain sidelined through injury. Amorim also confirmed there are two additional fitness concerns that could affect his team selection, though he refused to discuss them.

“We have two doubts for the game,” said Amorim. “I will not tell you today because it will change the way we are going to approach so let’s see if they can play.

“The rest of the squad is good, Matheus is back but I have two players who maybe they cannot play.”
