Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich’s head coach, addresses rumors of succeeding Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Vincent Kompany has downplayed speculation about potentially taking over as Manchester City manager, stating he’s fully focused on his current role at Bayern Munich.

The former Belgium international was appointed as Bayern’s head coach in 2024, and his impressive start has fueled rumors of a possible return to Manchester City.

Kompany’s comments came after Bayern supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß revealed that Pep Guardiola had encouraged Bayern to hire Kompany, even suggesting he’s the ideal successor at Manchester City.

However, Kompany stressed he doesn’t want to look too far ahead, preferring to concentrate on Bayern’s current challenges.

“I’ve often said: I’m not here to comment on Uli Hoeneß’ statements. I have huge respect for him. But in football, I can’t think that far ahead. My focus is on Bayern and what we can achieve now,” Kompany said.

Guardiola has publicly praised Kompany’s tactical prowess and leadership qualities, even recommending him to Bayern before his appointment. With Guardiola’s contract set to expire in 2027, speculation surrounding Kompany’s future is likely to continue.

For now, Kompany remains focused on guiding Bayern to success, emphasizing the importance of living in the present and taking things one match at a time.
