The Turkish Cup quarter-final between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe was marred by controversy, as Galatasaray secured a 2-1 victory. Both teams have met two times already this season with Galatasaray getting the only win in a 3-1 victory on matchday six of the Turkish Super Lig.

In a match filled with tension, Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen was the standout performer netting both goals for his team. His first goal came in the 18th minute as he once again showed his clinical finishing by dinding the back of the net with ease. Osimhen doubled the lead with a penalty before halftime, putting Galatasaray in a commanding position.

Fenerbahçe managed to pull one back through Sebastian Szymanski just before the break, setting up a tense second half.

As the match progressed, tensions escalated on the field, resulting in a mass brawl during stoppage time. Players and staff of the both clubs were involved in the altercation. The police had to get involved to restore order to proceedings while the referee, Cihan Aydin, showed multiple red cards .

Interestingly, José Mourinho was involved in a bizarre turn of events.

With things beginning to die down after stoppage time, José Mourinho, approached Galatasaray’s coach, Okan Buruk, and grabbed his nose, causing Buruk to fall theatrically. This incident has drawn widespread criticism and could result in further disciplinary action against Mourinho despite being red carded.

Galatasaray’s victory advances them to the semi-finals, while Fenerbahçe faces the aftermath of both the defeat and the controversy surrounding their manager.
