“I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes”, says City’s manager
Pep Guardiola says he feels “embarrassed and ashamed” after confronting a television cameraman when Manchester City lost 2-1 to Newcastle United last weekend.
Guardiola approached the cameraman after the final whistle, visibly angry, and spoke into his face. He also held confronted the referee and Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as he left the pitch.
City’s manager said he apologised almost instantly for his reaction.
“I feel embarrassed, ashamed when I see it,” said Guardiola. “I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the cameraman.
“I am who I am. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes. It’s not about that. What is for sure, I defend any team and my club.”
Guardiola’s frustration came as they took a massive step back in the title race. Arsenal capitalised on their defeat to Newcastle by beating Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates to move seven points ahead.
City will attempt to get back to winning ways when they take on Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Guardiola said: “It’s a huge competition. It’s special for the players. To challenge yourself with the best teams in Europe is incredible, a huge experience. For the club, in terms of reputation, prestige and financial issues it’s massively important.”
